We welcome Manuel Will as a new GACT-member! He is a Palaeolithic archaeologist and palaeoanthropologist whose research investigates human bio-cultural evolution across the Pleistocene, with a particular focus on the African Stone Age and human-environment interactions. His work addresses the role of stone tool technology in human evolution, the relationship between environmental change and material culture, and the emergence of behavioural complexity in Homo sapiens. In January 2027, he will start his DFG-funded Heisenberg position in “African Stone Age Archaeology” at the Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment. Within GACT, he aims to collaborate with experts in palaeogenetics, palaeoproteomics, and geoarchaeology at Holley Shelter (South Africa) and Barnberghöhle (Germany), and to extend these approaches to newly excavated localities in his African Stone Age research.
