25 students were lucky to secure a spot in our new Bachelor’s and Master’s course.
Dr. Sibylle Wolf and Dr. Chris Baumann (both members of GACT) are offering a new seminar this semester titled “Archaeology and Ecology of Caves – the Swabian Jura Sites.” The course is aimed at students of archaeology and biology and is designed to highlight the interdisciplinary character of GACT.
Students will get to know the most important prehistoric cave sites in the Swabian Jura, as well as the organisms that live—and once lived—in these unique ecosystems. It bridges the study of modern cave ecosystems with traces of the past.
How do caves form, and why are they such excellent ecological archives? Which animals and plants have adapted to life in darkness? And what evidence did Ice Age hunters and Pleistocene animals leave behind in these remarkable environments? The seminar will explore the intersection of nature and culture in one of the most extraordinary settings on Earth.
In addition to the weekly seminar (Wednesdays, 8–10 AM), they will also take part in a weekend excursion to the Swabian Jura (May 17–18). An update with some pictures will follow!
