New GACT Postdoc started

Since March, 15 we have a new postdoc in our team!

Dr. Susanne Zabel began her postdoctoral research in March at the Geogenomic Archaeology Campus Tübingen (GACT), co-supervised by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Cosimo Posth and Prof. Dr. Detlef Weigel in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biology and the University of Tübingen.

During her PhD, she combined methodological development with applied bioinformatics to improve the interpretability of high-dimensional (meta-)genomics and transcriptomics data. Specifically, her work addressed challenges associated with data uncertainty, such as missing values, and how these affect the reliability of low-dimensional representations. While her PhD broadly focused on computational biology, a key project addressing missing data in genotype data of ancient individuals served as her bridge into paleogenetics.

She is now leveraging this computational background to perform metagenomic analyses of cave sediments from South Africa.
