On June 6, 2025, we held our second GACT workshop in Tübingen.
We began with a talk by our postdoc Víctor Roces, titled „Insights from Ancient DNA on Serbia’s Past Cave Ecosystems: A GACT Project“, presented as part of the ASHE colloquium. This was followed by an overview of GACT’s activities over the past year.
Afterwards, our PhD students and postdoc brought up three topics they wished to discuss with the GACT network participants:
- sedaDNA analysis as a tool and not the final answer: How to better validate and interpret ancient DNA hits for deeper understanding of past species, metabolisms and hominin behaviours
(Ani Hristonova, Víctor Fernández Roces) - From excavation to the lab – How to manage an interdisciplinary analysis of ancient sediments under varying requirements while retaining data comparability
(Jens Grammer, Freya Steinhagen) - Beyond DNA: Using sediment chemistry and microscopy to support genetic claims
(Milan Varsadiya, Meret Häusler)
We will end later that day with a final discussion an cold drinks!
